Earth is the 3rd planet in the Sol star system and is the home world of the human race.
History (2018 series)[]
At the onset of Lost in Space, the year is 2046 and Earth has been setting up colonies on other worlds.
Prior to the Robinson family and others' setting off in the Jupiter spacecraft, the Earth is threatened by an asteroid dubbed the Christmas Star which causes catastrophic enviromental damage to the planet. They set off from Earth for Alpha Centauri on the 24th Mission in the Resolute, but the spacecraft is attacked by the Robot and they are forced to land in Jupiter spacecraft on an unknown planet. As of 2046, the Earth had become badly polluted. Will Robinson often got a tickle in his throat just from breathing the air outside and often needed to use an inhaler. The air was smelly, the dust toxic and the food supply was unstable. (Lost in Space: Return to Yesterday) As things continued to get worse, most people no longer went outside for exercise, due to the terrible air quality. ("Run")
It's later revealed that the Christmas Star was actually in fact an alien spaceship that crashed on Earth. The pilot, Scarecrow, is used along with an Alien Engine to fly the Resolute.
A year after the destruction of the Resolute, a new colony ship, the Solidarity, is built over Alpha Centauri to continue the evacuation of humanity to their colony worlds. ("Trust")
